Are Natural Skin Care Products Really the Answer?

Natural skin care products are getting a lot of hype these days. With everyone wanting to use natural products in every area of their life, this has now crossed over to skin care regimes. Advocates for natural skin care products claim that natural products are the only ones that will not be harmful to the skin. Some even go so far as to say that synthetic skin care products, or those that don’t contain purely natural ingredients, could be a danger to those that use them.

And while encouraging people to buy skin care products is always a good thing, the fight for natural skin care products has made some extremely wary of both synthetic and natural products. If synthetic products really are as bad as they say, shouldn’t they be taken off the shelves completely? But what if there are certain skin conditions that there isn’t a natural solution for? There’s a large area of debate on the subject and to form an opinion, you must first understand what natural skin care products really are.

It’s important to first understand that just because a product claims that it is a natural skin care product, this does not mean that it’s 100% natural. Finding products that are truly and completely all-natural is difficult for several reasons. The first is that natural products have a very short shelf life. Because of this, manufacturers and retailers either don’t like to carry it all or they need to add synthetic preservatives to it so that the product can sit on the shelf a little longer. However, as soon as any synthetic preservative is added, it is no longer a 100% all-natural skin care product. There are natural preservatives available for natural products however, they are not cost efficient to produce and so, are almost non-existent.

The other problem with misperception of natural skin care products is that they will not do any harm to the skin, unlike synthetic products. The truth is that whether or not a product is synthetic or natural has nothing to do with whether or not it will be harmful to the skin. Different skin types will react differently to different products. People need to try individual products, both natural and synthetic, to see which ones don’t cause a reaction if they are prone to them.

When choosing a natural skin care product, it’s important to choose wisely, just like you would with synthetic products. First, choose a product that is suited to the type of skin you have, whether that’s dry, oily, or sensitive skin. Secondly, make sure that you take into consideration the weather conditions where you will be using the product. If you’re going to be in hot and humid weather, you may not want to use a product that contains any oil. Lastly, make sure you know how to fully use the product. If you don’t know how to use the product properly, then it’s not going to work. And that’s true for both synthetic and natural skin care products!
